Course Overview

Gaining a theoretical understanding of behavior, victimization, the socio-legal context, and social reactions to crime is made possible by the criminology program. In addition, you’ll look at how the criminal justice system functions, how crime and victimization are portrayed in the media, how society views crime, and how social control will develop in the future. Through the prism of international criminological theories, all these aspects and more are thoroughly examined. Complementing this analysis are insights from adjacent fields such as psychology and sociology.

You will explore a wide range of criminal activity, victimization experiences, and miscarriages of justice over the course. The show provides a thorough analysis of the current criminal justice system, covering everything from in-depth investigations of violent offenders and serial killers to examining key cases like that of Zahid Mubarak, Stephen Lawrence, Sarah Everard, and Mark Duggan. This will get you ready for jobs in human rights, criminal investigation, intelligence services, or as a police or probation officer.

The course’s staff consists of academics, professionals, and researchers with a broad range of backgrounds in social work, victim support, crime prevention, case management, and other fields. This dynamic combination of expertise ensures that you will gain the skills necessary to meet the industry’s current difficulties as well as its future needs.
